MIDI Patch Browser is a small program that can help you select and play patches. You can browse an entire patch bank or you can load patches from a.pat file or a disk-drive. To load a patch file, or disk-drive, simply drag and drop it on the MIDIPatchBrowser window. The program is very small. After you've configured it for your MIDI device (using the Prefs dialog), you can start playing patches just by double-clicking on any of them in the MIDIPatchBrowser window. One nice feature of MIDI Patch Browser is that you can control it using MIDI events (as opposed to using keyboard shortcuts or the mouse). To be able to do this, you need to set the MidiOutput device for your MIDI output device. Using Patch Bundles MIDI Patch Browser supports patch bundles, where the patches are distributed in logical groups called bundles. You can access a bundle by selecting it in the Prefs dialog. After you've selected a bundle, you can control it using MIDI events, and it will show its patches on the screen. After starting up, you should be able to see the list of active patches. You can select a patch by double-clicking on it, or using the arrow keys to navigate to it. As you click on patches, MIDI notes will be heard, and the selected patch will start playing. Other Features Other features of this program include: ■ You can see details about any patch you're playing. ■ Select multiple patches at once. ■ Can select patch(es) from different banks. ■ Play multiple patches at once (very useful for controlling bus-editing software). ■ You can change patch parameters without stopping the patch. ■ Can select patches from a range of GBanks (up to 8 GBanks). ■ Can use the Ultrasound patch format (needed for.pat files over 9MB). ■ Can save patches to file in both Ultrasound and GS format. Installation After downloading MIDI Patch Browser, you can install it by double-clicking the MIDIPatchBrowser.exe file. If you want to install MIDI Patch Browser on a machine that's already running Ultrasound, you can simply drag MIDIPatchBrowser.exe from the Downloads folder to a convenient folder (like Program Files). Basic Usage To use this program, select Preferences from the File menu
